BMI View: For almost five decades Colombia has been ravaged by a bitter civil war which has pittedsuccessive governments against a several Marxist guerrilla groups. More recently, the Colombianauthorities have also had to combat violence perpetrated by right-wing paramilitaries along withattempting to thwart narcotics production and trafficking. We believe that tentative peace negotiationsbetween the FARC-EP - the largest of Colombia''s Marxist guerrilla groups - and the government are nowoccurring. Whether these talks can produce an end to the country''s civil war remains to be seen.Colombia''s government continues to wage its campaign against insurgent organisations...
