BMI View: For almost five decades Colombia has been ravaged by a bitter civil war which has pittedsuccessive governments against a several Marxist guerrilla groups. More recently, the Colombianauthorities have also had to combat violence perpetrated by right-wing paramilitaries along withattempting to thwart narcotics production and trafficking. We believe that tentative peace negotiationsbetween the FARC-EP - the largest of Colombia''s Marxist guerrilla groups - and the government are nowoccurring.
