In light of the Bank of Botswana (BoB)'s pursuit of monetary easing (reducing the benchmark interest rates by 150 basis points)easing price pressures and new Q1 2013 sales data from the Central Statistics Office, BMI estimates that passenger vehicles sales came in at 28,393 in 2013. However, passenger vehicles will continue to be the worst performing segment as consumers face price pressure from persistent inflation, fuel subsidies and rises in passenger vehicle prices. New and used passenger vehicle sales are forecasted to decline marginally to 27,825. Commercial vehicles (CVs) are expected to outperform as mining and construction sectors burgeon as the economy diversifies away from a reliance on diamond exports.
